Biography

lipino-American tenor Arthur Espiritu was born in Morong, Rizal Philippines, then immigrated to the United States in his teens with his parents. He finished his studies in Music Performance with an Artist Diploma from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music under the studio of late the Vocal Pedagog Richard Miller. He also earned his Bachelor of Arts and Masters in Music Performance from the University of New Orleans under the studio of Dr. Raquel Cortina. His current teachers are Dr. Raquel Cortina in New Orleans, Dr. Robert C. White Jr. in New York, and soprano Nelly Miriciouiu in London. Mr. Espiritu has been steadily establishing a respectable career on the International stage.

Mr. Espiritu has portrayed many leading tenor roles in North America, Europe, and Asia. His recent roles include several role debuts namely the title role of “Faust” by Gounod (Theater St. Gallen), Roberto of Leicester in Donizetti’s “Maria Stuarda” (Theater am Gaertnerplatz), Edgardo in Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” in his debut appearance in Daegu International Opera Festival, S. Korea, Gualtiero in Bellini’s “Il Pirata”, reprised the roles of Alfredo in Verdi’s “La Traviata”, Cassio in Verdi’s “Otello", Rodolfo in Puccini’s “La Boheme”, Don Ramiro in Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” (Theater am Gaertnerplatz), a debut at the (Sydney Opera House) as Rodolfo in Puccini's "La Boheme" and as The Shepherd in Szymanowski’s Opera in Polish "King Roger", a debut with Oper im Steinbruch St. Margarethen Opera Summer Festival as The Duke in Verdi’s “Rigoletto”, a debut with Munich Symphony in a concert series in Munich as a Solo Artist. During the 2015/16 season Mr. Espiritu debuted Romeo in Gounod’s “Romeo et Juliette” with Theater Magdeburg, Rinuccio in Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi” with Oper Frankfurt, reprised the role of Prince Ramiro in La Cenerentola, and Elvino in Bellini’s La Sonnambula with Staatstheater am Gaertnerplatz, a debut with Theater Basel as Ferrando in Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte", Rodolfo in Puccini’s “La Boheme” with Theater Magdeburg, he also debuted the role of Fernando in Donizetti’s “La Favorita” with Theater St. Gallen Summer Festival, reprised the role of Ernesto in Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale” in his debut appearance with with Oper Leipzig, he sang the role of the Lamplighter in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut with Baden-Baden Festspiele. His career highlights in the beginning of his career was his very first Ferrando in Michael Hampe’s staging of Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte” with Teatro alla Scala, then debuted the role of Tamino in Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” with Israeli Opera Tel-Aviv, he debuted the role of Publio in one of Mozart’s early works "Il sogno di Scipione” with the former Gotham Chamber Opera, New York.

For the seasons 2021/2022 Mr. Espiritu will debut the role of Riccardo/Gustavo in Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera” with Theater Bonn, reprise the roles of Alfredo in Verdi’s La Traviata with Theater Basel, Leicester in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda with Irish National Opera, and Edgardo di Ravenswood in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. He will be the Tenor Soloist in a debut appearance at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam (Opera Gala, Reiseoper Netherlands).

Arthur Espiritu is a winner of the distinguished 2009 George London Award. Furthermore he won the La Scala award at the Belvedere Competition in 2007. He then won top prizes in with competitions such as The Irene Dalis Competition Opera San Jose, California, Opera Birmingham Voice Competition, Alabama, Finalist and Prize winner of The Regional Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Winner of numerous NATS competition Southern District, Prize winner of the National Opera Association Vocal Competition in New York.
