Thomas Barrett has performed leading roles with the opera companies of Santa Fe, San Francisco, St. Louis, Dallas, Atlanta, Charlotte, Omaha, Kansas City, Chautauqua, Detroit, Boston, Miami, Phoenix, Indianapolis, Nashville, Milwaukee and Düsseldorf, Germany. He has earned international acclaim for his exceptional vocalism and handsome, commanding stage presence in such roles as the title role in Don Giovanni, Marcello in La Boheme, Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Malatesta in Don Pasquale, Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus, the High Priest in Samson et Dalila, Lescaut in Manon, Guglielmo in Cosi Fan Tutte, and Escamillo in Carmen. Mr. Barrett recently made his debut with the Metropolitan Opera in their production of The Merry Widow.  Recent engagements have also included Handel’s Messiah and Carmina Burana with the St. Louis Symphony, Turandot with the Dallas Opera, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Roanoke Symphony, Escamillo in Carmen with Opera Carolina, the American premier of Jonathon Dove’s Flight with Opera Theatre of St. Louis. 

Recent engagements include Scarpia in Tosca with Opera Birmingham, Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Carmina Burana with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Escamillo in Carmen with the Greenville Symphony, Count in Le Nozze di Figaro with Toledo Opera, Macheath in Three Penny Opera with Arizona Opera, Danilo in The Merry Widow with Fresno Grand Opera, and Germont in La Traviata with Opera Carolina, Belcore in L’Elisir D’Amore with the Atlanta Opera, Count in Le Nozze di Figaro with Fresno Opera, Lescaut in Manon Lescaut and Marcello in La Boheme with Palm Beach Opera, Minsk Man in Flight with Boston Lyric Opera, Dandini in La Cenerentola with Dallas Opera, Slim in Of Mice and Men with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, and Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus with Nashville Opera.

Also an accomplished concert performer, Mr. Barrett has been featured with the symphonies of Houston, St. Louis, Detroit, Milwaukee, Toronto, Virginia, Roanoke, Wichita, Charleston and Sioux City, as well as the Florida and Rochester Philharmonics, Minnesota Orchestra, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Bach Society of St. Louis and Louisville Bach Society. His orchestral repertoire includes the Requiems of Brahms, Verdi, Duruflé, Mozart and Fauré; Handel’s Messiah; Haydn’s Creation; Mendellsohn’s Elijah; Bach’s B minor Mass, St. John Passion and St. Matthew Passion; Orff’s Carmina Burana, and Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, Choral Fantasy and Ninth Symphony.

A graduate of the prestigious Julliard Opera Center, Mr. Barrett is the recipient of many vocal awards and honors, including the Richard Gaddes Award from Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. While receiving a BM in Vocal Performance at the Indiana University School of Music, he studied with the late legendary Basso Nicola Rossi-Lemeni and his wife, renowned Soprano Virginia Zeani.   Mr. Barrett currently resides in Missouri with his wife, Mezzo-Soprano Angela Horn, and their two children.
