Biography
One of Great Britain's leading singers, Bonaventura Bottone is a regular guest of the world’s leading opera companies, including the Metropolitan Opera (Italian Tenor in Capriccio), Royal Opera Covent Garden (Italian Tenor in Der Rosenkavalier, Alfred in Die Fledermaus, the Italian Tenor in Capriccio, Raoul in Meyerbeer's Les Hugenots, and Count Libenskof in Il Viaggio a Reims) the Lyric Opera of Chicago as the Italian Tenor in Capriccio and as Alfred in Die Fledermaus), Houston Grand Opera as Pedrillo in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Bavarian State Opera (Alfred and the Italian Tenor in Der Rosenkavalier), Paris Opera (Alfred in Die Fledermaus), New Israeli Opera (Ernesto in Don Pasquale), Teatro San Carlos in Lisbon and Teatro Municipal in Santiago, Chile (Alfred in Die Fledermaus), Florentine Opera of Milwaukee (Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly) and Atlanta Opera (Riccardo in Un Ballo in Maschera) has appeared with all of the major British opera companies, with leading international opera houses, and numerous orchestras.
For the English National Opera, he has performed seventeen major roles, including the title role in Berlioz’s Damnation du Faust, the Duke in Rigoletto, Lenski in Eugene Onegin, Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana and Sam Kaplan in Street Scene. For the Scottish Opera, he has performed Loge in Das Rheingold, and the Governor in Candide. He has appeared with the Welsh National Opera in new productions of Le Comte Ory and La Favorita, Opera North as Pedrillo in Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Alfredo in La Traviata, and with the Glyndebourne Festival as the Italian Tenor in Capriccio.
Recordings include The Mikado, Street Scene, Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld, Tippett's The Ice Break, and Vaughan Williams' Hugh the Drover, plus musicals such as Kismet, A Little Night Music, and The Student Prince. Mr. Bottone is also a frequent guest soloist on BBC radio and television concert programs.
In recent seasons, he returned to the Metropolitan Opera as Incredibile in Andrea Chenier, Lyric Opera of Chicago as Loge in Das Rheingold and Pirelli in Sweeney Todd, Los Angeles Opera as Licht in Der Zwerg, made his debut in Australia with Opera Queensland in the title role of Berlioz’ La Damnation du Faust, return to Teatro Municipal in Santiago, Chile and the English National Opera as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Florentine Opera as the Duke of Mantua, returned to the Royal Opera, Covent Garden as Pirelli, and appeared at Teatro alla Scala in their production of Candide. On the concert stage in North America,, he has appeared with the Edmonton Symphony.
Born in England of Italian descent, Mr. Bottone studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
