American mezzo-soprano Angela Horn is often noted as one of opera’s leading interpreters in the title role of Carmen. The Los Angeles Times says, “Angela Horn carried off he role of Carmen with convincing tempestuous energy...Not only does she certainly look the part-with wild black hair and a spectacular figure-she carried it out with physical as well as musical energy.” Additionally, she is praised for her portrayals as Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, and Maddalena in Rigoletto in houses worldwide such as New York City Opera, Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Carolina, Indianapolis Opera, Nashville Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Opera Theater of Kansas City, Kentucky Opera, Mississippi Opera, The Baltimore Opera, The Glimmerglass Opera, Dayton Opera, as well as The National Theater of the Dominican Republic, Opera Lyra Ottawa, Opera Pacific, Opera de Monte Carlo, Hamburgische Staatsoper, and a Japan tour with Roberto Alagna, among others.
Recently, Ms. Horn was seen as the title role in Carmen with the Minnesota Orchestra, New York City Opera, Florida Grand Opera, and Opera Lyra Ottawa, Maddalena in Rigoletto with Opera Carolina, Teresa in La Sonnambula with Baltimore Opera, a returned to Boston Lyric Opera for their reprisal of Opera Theatre of St. Louis’ widely acclaimed 2003 American premiere of Jonathon Dove’s Flight, Elizabeth Procter in The Crucible with Indianapolis Opera, Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus with Nashville Opera, Emilia in Otello for Opera Omaha, and Anna in Kurt Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins with New York City Opera. Next, she performs Dalilah in Samson et Dalilah with Bob Jones University.
In concert, she has been heard as Flora in La Traviata with the Jacksonville Symphony, Handel’s Messiah with the Alabama Symphony, mezzo soloist in Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Greenville Symphony and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. She continues to perform with orchestras throughout North America including The St. Louis Symphony, The Toronto Symphony, The Long Island Philharmonic, Greensboro Symphony, Kalamazoo Symphony, The Bach Society of Saint Louis, Virginia Symphony, The Apollo Chorus of Chicago in Orchestra Hall, The National Chorale of New York City and the American Symphony Orchestra in Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, among many others.
Ms. Horn received her undergraduate musical training at the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City and completed her advanced vocal studies at the Juilliard School in New York City, where she was a graduate of the Juilliard Opera Center.
