Biography
Canadian soprano Nikki Einfeld has attracted attention for the virtuosity of her vocalism and secure command of bel canto style. Critics have commented on her “remarkable display of stratospheric pointillism” (The Globe and Mail) as well as “a bright, lithe tone, pinpoint accuracy and a saucy stage demeanor” (San Francisco Chronicle).
Recent engagements include appearances with the New Orleans Opera as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Manitoba Opera as Adele in Die Fledermaus, Syracuse Opera in the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor, and Opera Francais of New York as Telaire in Casper et Pollux, Edmonton Opera as Nanetta in Falstaff and as Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Vancouver Opera as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Manitoba Opera as, Zerlina in Don Giovanni and Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore,Opera Lyria Ottawa as Ophelia in Hamlet, Rosina with Sastkatoon Opera, and Canadian Opera Company as Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute.
As an Adler Fellow at the San Francisco Opera, Ms. Einfeld performed many roles including Mascha in Tchaikovsky’s Pique Dame, Papagena in The Magic Flute, Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro, Serpina in Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona, the title role in Donizetti’s Rita andPauline in Thomas Pasatieri’s The Seagull. As a participant in their Merola Opera Program she performed in Menotti’s The Medium and J. Ibert’s Angelique.
In Canada she has appeared as The Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute with the Canadian Opera Company, as Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore for Manitoba Opera, as Ophelie in Hamlet at Opera Lyra Ottawa, Rosina in The Barber of Seville (Saskatoon Opera), Zerlina in Don Giovanni (Manitoba Opera), and Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, (on tour with NUOVA).
The current season includes appearances with Manitoba Opera as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Edmonton Opera as Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Vancouver Opera as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, and the Green Mountain Opera Festival as Lucia.
Her affinity for recital and concert repertoire, including many 20th and 21st century work Premieres, has lead to guest appearances with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra New Music Festival, Basically British recital series, the Left Coast Chamber Orchestra, Montreal Chamber Orchestra, the Empyrean Ensemble as well as many broadcast recordings on CBC Radio Canada. Other appearances include Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Nevada Opera, Stanford Orchestra and the San Francisco Opera Orchestra in concert.
Her competition credits include First prize in the internationally recognized Eckhardt-Gramatee National Music Competition (2002), which further lead to a tour of Canada’s major music communities in recital with collaborating pianist Shannon Hiebert. Ms. Einfeld was also a multiple prize-winner 32nd CBC Radio-Canada National Competition for Young Performers (2003) and was a Grand Finalist in the 2006 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
