Biography Since making his debut in 1987, Italian Conductor Giuliano Carella has led operatic productions in the most prestigious venues around the world in a wide range of repertoire from Paisiello to Ferrero, and all the most important works in the Italian and French repertoire. In Italy, he often guest conducts at Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Teatro Verdi di Trieste, Arena di Verona, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro Bellini di Catania, Teatro del Giglio di Lucca, Rossini Opera Festival di Pesaro, and Festival Pucciniano di Torre del Lago. Outside of Italy, he most recently guest conducted at the Vienna Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper and Staatsoper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Oper Frankfurt, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Theatre de l’Opera Comique in Paris, L’Opéra de Marseille, Opera National du Rhin in Strasbourg, Opera de Nancy et de Lorraine, Opera de Monte-Carlo, De Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam, Theatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, Teatro Real in Madrid, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos in Lisbon, Opera North in Leeds, Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, Michigan Opera Theatre in Detroit, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, New National Theater and Japan Opera Foundation in Tokyo, and the Edinburgh International Festival. His discography includes Sonnambulaand Ernani (Diapason prize) for Nuova Era, Pacini’s Ultimo Giorno di Pompei for Dynamic, recital recordings with Sumi Jo and Jennifer Larmore for Teldec and Erato with the English Chamber Orchestra (Grammy Award Nomination 1999), Turandotand Normaon DVD from the Liceu in Barcelona, Norma on DVD from il Teatro Bellini di Catania and I Puritani on DVD from l’Opera Royale de Wallonie in Liege. On the Opera Rara record label, he has recorded Rossini’s Elisabetta, Donizetti’s Diluvio Universale, Meyerbeer’s Esule di Granata with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as Rossini’s Adelaide di Borgogna, live from the Edinburgh Festival. In concert, Mo. Carella has led the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Academy of St-Martin in the Fields, English Chamber Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Staatskapelle Berlin, Bayerische Rundfunk, NPS Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, NPS Radio Kamer Filharmonie, Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orchestra Sinfonica della Rai di Torino, among many others. Mo. Carella has served as the President of I Solisti Veneti since 1990, and currently Musical Director at Opera Toulon Provence Mediterranean. He was the orchestra director at Arena di Verona from 1998 to 2003. He studied conducting at the Verdi Conservatory in Milan, and studied composition at the Pollini Conservatory in Padova. He was awarded an honorary merit degree at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. Upcoming engagements include Luisa Miller and Nabucco at Staatsoper Stuttgart, La Bohème at Michigan Opera Theatre, Puccini’s Messa di Gloria with the Orchestra della Toscana in Florence, Rigoletto at Opera de Monte Carlo, Un Ballo in Maschera at Oper Frankfurt, La Traviata at the Nederlandse Oper in Amsterdam, Cavalleria Rusticana/I Pagliacci and L’Italiana in Algeri at Opera de Marseille, Samson et Dalila at NPS Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Tosca at the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen, and multiple productions over the next several seasons at Opera Toulon Provence Mediterranean: Thaïs, La Rondine, Dido and Aeneas, La Bohème, Otello, Lohengrin, Madama Butterfly, Tosca, Aida and Halévy’s Les Mousquetaires de la Reine.In the summer 2010, he conducts Turandot at Arena di Verona and at the Festival de Obidos in Lisbon, as well as Saint-Saens’ La Princess Jaune at the Accademia Chigiana di Siena. |
