Biography
A young artist with unusual charisma on stage and a distinctive vocal timbre, Lauren Curnow is one of America’s most appealing young singers. As a member of the Ryan Opera Center of the Lyric Opera of Chicagod, she appeared on the stage of the Lyric Opera of Chicago as the Fox in The Cunning Little Vixen, Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor, Clorinda in La Cenerentola, Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Ida in Die Fledermaus and as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni.
Elsewhere, she has appeared at the Wexford Festival in the title role of La Voix Humaine, the Opera Company Philadelphia as Hansel in Hansel und Gretel, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni for Austin Lyric Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Berta in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and with the Saito Kinen Festival as the Fox in The Cunning Little Vixen conducted by Seiji Ozawa, a production in which she also appeared at the Teatro Comunale in Florence. She also appeared with the Orchestra of the Teatro Fenice in Venice as soloist in Luciano Berio’s Folk Songs conducted by Sir Andrew Davis. This past winter, she returned to the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro.
She has previously appeared with the Opera Company of Philadelphia, Wolf Trap Opera, Opera Festival of New Jersey, Chautauqua Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, and the Santa Fe Opera most notably.
Lauren Curnow earned a Bachelor of Arts from Muhlenberg College and a Master of Music from the Juilliard School. She also earned a Master of Music in Opera from the Curtis Institute of Music. She is the winner of the Edith Newfield Scholarship from the Musicians Club of Women, Rose M. Grund award of the Union Leave Civic and Arts Foundation, Anna Sosenko Trust Fund, and a Special Judges’ Award District Level from the Metroplitan Opera National Council.
